Project Summary

With the world’s greatest number of people with dementia, Chinese communities need policy solutions for dementia that are based on evidence and guided by the needs and expectations of stakeholders. In Hong Kong and nearby Chinese communities, governments, NGOs, philanthropy organisations, and academia/professional training bodies are working on possible solutions. The next step is to translate these aspirations and lessons learned into action plans, supported by accurate estimations of needs and resources.

 

In partnership with the STRiDE project, an international research project driving the development of dementia care policy, TIP-CARD is a three-year project consisting of three inter-related studies: (1) a situation analysis to assess the current dementia care, intervention and support situation with stakeholders; (2) a cost of dementia study to estimate the monetarized cost of dementia, considering family caregiving and other factors, using existing data and collecting new information needed; (3) a simulation modelling analysis to simulate future demands in terms of financial, organizational and workforce support under different assumptions of dementia prevalence, service model and care pathway. The expected outcome of the research is a set of accessible tools, data and strategies co-developed with stakeholders to support the generation of dementia policies and action plans for Hong Kong and the greater Chinese communities.
